Tomorrow, I will be driving to a neaby city to fetch a couple of percula clownfish that were given to me by a friend. I am not quite convinced in transporting them back home in plastic bags.  The trip is almost a 5 hour drive. I wanted to know if you guys had experience transporting livestock for this long on a road trip. I though also about briging them back in a coleman container with an airstone. Is this a better idea than the usual plastic bags? Is there something I can add to the water to keep ammonia down? Thanks for your thoughts. |

If its possible, try to get them in bags filled with O2, the fish can last up to 24 hrs with no problem. If O2 is not possible, then put them in a container with a batt. powered pump with an air stone. Like Luna mentioned, O2 makes a big difference. If you decide to ship in buckets, however, you might want to consider a heater or heat packs in addition to the air stone. | |

I just put them in bags in a bucket by my heater vent Or I use a cooler and a couple heat packs but still in bags I have had to many people pull out in front of me and have fish on the floor board. I use airstones sometimes. 5 hours you should be alright. | |

Make sure they havent been fed for a few days. o2 is not needed to transport fish if you do it right.
Dont feed them for 2-3 days, once the bag is closed, DONOT open it until they are ready to be acclimated to your tank.
First rule of packing is less water equals more fish! that means put the absolute minimum amount of water in each bag. Fish do not breath water they breath air. You can use an air pump to blow the bags up, you dont need o2, just dont blow them up using your mouth. _________ Got Questions? Need Answers?
