| Fish Dieing??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am having a problem with all my fish dieing. I have a 75 gallon tank that has been running for 2 1/2 months. I put bio spira in it and live sand.
I bought 4 damsels but 2 of them died in the tank, but the other 2 lived for a while, so I kept having my water tested and the place kept saying it was getting better. I took it there a week later and they said it was perfect and I could get a fish. So I bought a yellow tang, and left him in there for a a week and a 1/2. He did fine for a 2 weeks so I put in a blue tang. They both were in there for a week.
THen, the blue tang died over night. THe next day I went and got my water tested and it was fine. My lfs couldn't tell me what the problem was. The next day my yellow tang died and I got my water tested and they said that it was fine.
I waited a week then went a bought a scorpus tang that was on sale. The was fine for 4 days then all of a sudden this morning he was laying on the bottom and isn't able to swim right. He can swim but his back end falls down below his front. and if he stops swimming he just drops right away.
All of my fish die at night. Can anybody PLEASE HELP ME??? |

| Sure...
I would say you added too many fish for the amount of time you have described. I usually wait several weeks to months in between fish.
Let me ask a few questions and get some more info so we can better help you.
You have a 75 gallon tank with live sand. What other means of filtration are you using? Live rock? Skimmer?
The money you have spent on tangs could have gotten some decent test kits of your own, which I highly recommend. What are your water parameters? pH, salinity, temp, ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates?
You said two of the damsels were OK for a while...did they also eventually die? _________ I Love My Sig By John Hawkins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I have 60 pounds of live sand, 7 pounds of cured live rock, 21 pounds of dead/dryed live rock, 350 penguin bio wheel filter, and a sump, but the sump is empty right now.
Temp- 78
PH- 8.3 when test 1 week ago
Salinity- 1.021
Ammonia- .50 this morning
I changed 12 gallons of water and the ammonia didn't go down. I don't know my nitrates or nitrites. THey were good when my lfs tested them a week ago.
Could it be this snail that my lfs said was alive but was really dead? I put him in my tank and he didn't move at all. Or my friend gave me this other snail that always fell over and couldn't get back up, he was still alive though?
My other 2 damsels I gave 2 my brother. |

| My fish isn't chewed. I only have 1 fish in the tank, 1 emblem crab, and 1 good snail that cleans the tank. |

Need more rock! General rule of thumb is 1 to 2 pounds per gallon. Also, is the dead , dried rock from an old tank? It could still be releasing decayed matter from within or leaching copper if the previous system had been treated...
Temp- 78 Good
PH- 8.3 when test 1 week ago Good
Salinity- 1.021 A little low, if you will be keeping fish only I would shoot for 1.023 minimum, and for reef about 1.026
Ammonia- .50 this morning Be patient, this is still a bit high to add fish. It sounds like your tank is still cycling. The ammonia will come down with time and patience.

A skimmer would not be a bad addition to this tank

| | 3reef Moderator | Ya I agree with BL, Slow down. I don't believe you tank has cycled fully yet. Get you own test kits and perform you ammonia test Nitrite, and Nitrate. I don't see and info on Nitrites and Nitrates. Please post those numbers?

| I don't have any numbers on nitrates or nitrites. I am going out this week and buying a test kit. Maybe one clown.
Thanks! |

I would really try to avoid buying more fish. I think it would be really irresponsible of you knowing you have some sort of problem.
