One question I meant to ask is: What is your acclimation procedure? Very important to acclimate properly, this time of year especially.

I tried 2 different ways to acclamate them.

First- I heard this one is less stressful.

I opened the bag and set him in the tank for 5 minutes. Then I slowly poured like 2-3 onces of water in the bag every 5 minutes for 30 minutes.

This hobby is just one big learning curve and everyone is still learning!

I would invest in alot more live rock at this point... not only will it help with the cycling but without fish it will give time for the microfauna to develop!

I dont know where the rock you get in the states is from but good fijian rock will certainly entertain you for a few weeks.....then add a large clean up crew.....feed for about a month then progress to stocking with fish and inverts...at least the time will alow you to draw up a stock list....which will show you compatability of specimines andin which order it would be best to stock!

i am stuck with a five year old humbug damsel which is a pugnacious son of a b, but i cant get rid of him....but he limits me to what i can keep....untill the new tank is built that is!

Be patient is the best advice anyone can give you in this hobby! go slow and just let it grow! you will get there, just learn the basics whilst sipping a cold beer and watching that rock and maybe a few hermits to add movement!

good luck....or should i just say be persistent! we all want to pull our hair out at times, that why this site is sooooo good as we are all here to help one another.....and dont take any posts the wrong way! people are just trying to pass on their points! All tanks are unique and what works for one may not work for the other......just pick the points that are most suited to your needs and just enjoy!

take your time and it will pay off! use it to get your harware in the right place etc......

IMHO--using any live thing (with the exception of rock) to cycle a tank is cruelty to animals. There are different bacterial based preps out there that you can add to your tank--but it will not cycle the tank for you. Yes, they will aid in the cycle process.
