I agree with Naut on that one.

That would work.

As for pumps, I haven't had in problems with RIOS either, but I think they are louder than a lot of other pumps out there.

I am really high on these Ocean Runner Pumps. From everything I have heard and read they are high quality, durable and quite. And they really put out. The only negative is they are kinda bulky.

The Ocean Runner 3500 puts out 900 GPH at 65 watts for around $60-$70 dollars!

Premium Aquatics carries them but they are sold out of the 3500s. *:'(

If you are interested, you may want to PM Craig, I think he may have one available.

Ok here is a pump question . We need a gallon per minute at about 3 feet of head . Just a tad more than ( 1 ) p.s.i.
The duty factor needs to be continuous . It has to be safe and quiet . What pump do you think we should use ?

Default Re: Equipment????

grrr ... i looked at the OR pump and it is too big for my sump/fuge/skimmer with its dimentions of: 7-1/4 x 6 x 5-1/2 (LxWxH)

however i found the mag drive 950 with the following specs
Flow Rate: 950 GPH
Watts: 93
Pump Size (L x W x H): 5.0" x 3.0" x 5.5"
Outlet Size / Inlet Size: 3/4" MPT / 3/4" FPT

this should work better for the squid dont you think?

btw the rise is approx 4 ft

so the 950 should flow 800 GPH at 4ft

can i get away with the 950 or do i need to go with the 1200 (specs as follows)
Flow Rate: 1200 GPH
Watts: 110
Pump Size (L x W x H): 6.4" x 4.5" x 4.6"
Outlet Size / Inlet Size:3/4" MPT / 3/4" FPT

the 1200 should flow 1130 GPH at 4ft

also is the 1200 overkill?

Out of those choices I would get the 950. At four feet of head that's just over 10 times an hour on your 75 which is perfect.

The Eheim sump pumps are nice, but I bet they cost more.

Default Re: Equipment????

well, i didn't plan on adding anything to my set-up this week but i have a chance to get a free hagen fluval 404 (missing O-ring and primer)

not sure if this would even be helpful to my tank, but hey its free

http://www.hagen.com/usa/aquatic/pro...01002150020101

was kinda wondering if a SWCD could be effective run off of it?

I have a 404 just sitting here with a broken drive cover.
IMO I would not hook it up to a swcd as is does not have that much force to make it effective.
What do you plane on putting in each of the 4 media baskets?

i was thinking prefilter(the ceramic stuff), foam pad, then GAC, and not sure about the last one ... i thought about the ammonia but that sounds like it might mess with my bacteria set-up in a new tank

btw naut if your not looking to uses your 404 let me know .. maybe we can work something out
