Default Re: Equipment????

got a PowerHead from my uncle ... a EHEIM Aquaball

i tested it in my FW tank ... and my tiger oscars seemed less than thrilled with it [smiley=devil.gif]

anyhow i got a couple of questions

1) is this a good PH

2) does it need to have the airline hooked up to funtion properly (if not does having the airline connected improve walter quality)

3) is it possible and health to do an entire tank with this style of PH and if so how many and where should i place them in a 75G back-right mega-flow tank?

TIA

1)Well it's Eheim, anything Eheim I have owned has been great - canisters, and other pumps. Quiet and durable. I don't think the Aquaball is very powerfull though.

2)Airline is not necessary, especially if you have a skimmer, which you should.

3)It's possible to do that, but it would be ugly. Since you have an overflow, I'm guessing you have a sump. What I would do is just get a nice sump pump and use a SCWD (see product review board) and split the return. This will provide random current. On my 75, I was planning on using an Ocean Runner 3500 pump as my return. The quality is high from what I have heard and they have a high flow while being energy efficient.

The aqua ball is to big and does not have enough GPH and is god ugly.
It always slips off the desired spot it was placed and takes up way to much room in the tank.

1 good thing about it is that it does not need that much cleaning and if you can get it to stick it is easy to point the flow where you want it to go.

hmmm ... i have had it up and running for about a day now no slippage to speak of yet, but i need to take it out cause my little Oscar is still in hiding

it starts up really nice and is silent

since i cant use all aquaballs what kind of PHs should i look at

here is what i am looking for in order

1) maintenance and reliability ( it needs to last and i don't want to clean it often)
2) noise (is is quiet)
3) obviousness (can it easily be hidden)
4) price
5) ascetic appeal (if i cant hide it does it look good)

so far i am happy with my EHEIM but i am willing to look in to other brands

i just looked at the SCWD from one of are sponsors pages

http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merch...ory_Code=Sales

if i derided to get this would it work with my mag 700 sump pump

if so would one line run to my AGA mega-flow return and the other run to the u-tube attachment on the opposite end of the tank?

RIO 800 - 211gph Powerhead
Price: $15.95 at PA.

I have had mine for 2 years now with no issues. They are small enough to hide anywhere. I have 2 in the tank 1 in the top off water and 1 in sump going to refugium.

The Mag 700 is only pushing 700 gph. And this is at zero tubing lenght as the GPH goes down for each foot of tubing you add.

quote from PA=
The SCWD can be ran off a pump or power head at as low as 50 gallons per hour, and can be used with pump applications up to 1400 gallons and hour.
Ê Keep in mind that at fifty gallons an hour the switching response is very slow, and at 1400 gallons an hour the switching response is quite rapid.

My thought on the return tubes would be that they would need to be the same lenght as if one was longer then the other, then your return water would not be as powerful on one side becuse of the longer distance.

If you already have the 700 pump then use it and see if that is enough flow for your tank. If not go with something bigger.

Hey Walter,
Under advertiser you have your own area to post sales and product information. I think it would get more views if you started one there also.

This kit what would it detail? all the parts and we put it together? would this be a big cost savings to us reefers to do this?

I agree with Naut on that one.

That would work.

As for pumps, I haven't had in problems with RIOS either, but I think they are louder than a lot of other pumps out there.

I am really high on these Ocean Runner Pumps. From everything I have heard and read they are high quality, durable and quite. And they really put out. The only negative is they are kinda bulky.

The Ocean Runner 3500 puts out 900 GPH at 65 watts for around $60-$70 dollars!

Premium Aquatics carries them but they are sold out of the 3500s. :'(

If you are interested, you may want to PM Craig, I think he may have one available.
