Dazed and confused, newbie question (skimmer):

I'm starting a 55 gal FOLR, I decided to purchase an AquaC Urchin Pro instead of the remora pro (to many post about what a PIA the overflow box is and how much room it takes up in the tank).
My question, I'm using a 29 gal as a sump where does the output water from the skimmer go? Does it just flow back into the baffle with the unskimmed tank water and then spill over into the sponge or carbon baffle or do you route this water directly into the carbon baffle and then pump it back into the tank?
Also with the CPR CS90 Overflow box where does the "aqualifter pump connect" do you really need this to keep the siphon? These OverFlows are so $$$.. agggggh

The aqualifter pump connects to a small fitting on top of the overflow. The return side you can put into the sump. For the skimmer????

as for the skimmer .. doesn't sit in the sump? and pumps the sump water (from the overflow) into the skimmer unit and that produces skimmate. where does the output water go from the skimmer? do you divert it into another section of the sump where it gets pumped back into the tank or does it mix back in with the unskimmed water (from the overflow) until it rises high enough to flow over the baffle?

sorry I guess when my skimmer comes in, I will figure it out...

It mixes back into the unskimmed water and goes over the baffle.

I just purchased the exact same skimmer. It sits in the input side of the sump and the water goes back into the same section and then goes out of that section to the next section of the sump. You do not want the water filtered before it goes into the skimmer as then it will have nothing to skim. I hooked mine up yesterday and it is cranking out the foam. You can use the collection cup o-ring to set the height of the cup to allow less or more water into the cup thus collecting wetter or drier foam. It is pretty much your preference. If wet it will fill faster than if dry.

I talked to Christine at Aqua C and she said that the best thing to do is clean the collection cup every day and that the actual body of the skimmer does not need frequent cleaning with the exception of the injector and the pump, of course. Probably every six months or dependant on your ideas of keeping a clean sump. I'm kind of lazy about that.

The aquaC urchin and remora are nice skimmers. They do a good job for the size tanks they are designed for. You will be pleased with its performance.

I agree with NUHTTY, my Urchin is definitely cranking out the foam and I am very happy with its performance and ease of maintenance!@!
