| | 3reef Moderator | For me it really depends were I get it from. Some places I need to acclimate other places I just put them right in the tank. I know that people will not agree with me but I have never lost a coral when I just through it in the tank.
many people dip there corals others acclimate them over a long period of time.

| I agree with both. I have placed corals right in (because I'm lazy) and they always turn out ok. It's normal for them to come out a day or two later, especially zooanthids.
The only corals that I do acclimate are the expensive, rarer corals. Like my rainbow acan or nice colored zooanthids. The only things I have lost due to shock are zoo's. Necrosis is common on Zoanthids, so be careful with these..

| I strongly suggest reading a book on care for corals before you try to keep them. Not to say you haven't done your homework. But if you havent, time to get started since you have the itch to get one, hehe!
Best wishes, enjoy! |

| I agree with serotonin. but I dont acclimate corals unless there is a huge temp difference and then just floating in the bag untill the temp is closer

| thanks for the advice and yes i have been reading so much and making many notes. i just sometimes like to get hands on advice from real people. unfortunately u can't ask books questions...yet. i asked because i've heard of people doing a dip but didn't know exactly what to do or if it's advisable. |

| Your corals and fish traveled almost completely around the world and beat all the odds to get into your care....alive. Please do all you can to make sure they survive. Even if it means taking a half hour out of your busy day.
For acclimating, whatever you have found to do after shipping is probably fine for bringing them home from the lfs. Cept you don't have to worry much about having the lights on.

It basically means that the corals tissue is wasting away and when they do suffer FTN, it's pretty much dead. They get that when under extreme stress and the survival after they get it is slim. Mannyhernz lost a galaxea colony almost overnight to FTN. |
