He ate everything he could including a 7 inch ghost knife fish that took 3 days to fully ingest, put in 6 feeder goldfish and he would have 3 hanging out of his mouth and go for more. So aggressive???? Go with a tiger oscar. I have a friend that has a string around a rubber minnow so he could fish for his without a hook. That's what I would go with anyways.
I don't think feedign an oscor raw meat or candy is healthy for the fish. But you are correct the yare agressive. However if you want more than 1 fish I suggest Kenyi's. YOu can get several.

The hamburger wasn't raw... and the candy was someone threw in a valentine heart that he gobbled right up -- wasn't a regular thing but definately a cool fish.

Go SW, the dollar cost for a fish only tank is not that much more, where the cost will be is in time spent on maint, it takes a little bit longer until you get used to it. besides you can get cool looking preadators like a Harlequin Tusk, and not to mention Eels.

Yes, go salt. The predators are wayyyyyy cooler to have and enjoy!

I love my African Cichlids and I always will, but my groupers and eel are so much more alert and inquisitive.
My BF has a laser pointer that the groupers love to chase and they actually recognise him and get all excited when they see the pointer.
They really do have personalities and each one has it's own quirks.

Have fun!

i love oscars.no other fw fish is so smart and you can teach them tricks and they notice you and look unlike many other fw fish that just don't do much.but if you go sw fish you get really cool stuff like eels and poisonous lion/scorpion fish.big cool looking crabs, conch.all the stuff i can't put in my reef tank and basically if its not i reef with corals, all you have to do is add salt, and a skimmer.
