1st frag - Green Star Polyp

I finally found a good LFS yesterday and picked up a peppermint shrimp to hopefully take care of my aiptasia problem. Also grabbed 3 turbo snails to replace the ceriths that seem to be turning into empty shells.
And finally I couldn't resist picking up my first frag...so I brought home a small green star polyp. I placed it about 6 inches below the surface in what I believe to be moderate current. But I have seen any of the beautiful green tentacles emerge yet. I'm sure it needs a while to get over the shock for transport etc, but I'm wondering how long I should wait before I get nervous about it.
Any advice, suggestions or reassurance would be greatly apprectiated...thanks!

Green star polyps are slow to emerge...when first introduced they can take a couple of days to show themselves. Even when they are established they are the slowest to wake up in the mornings, at "lights on". I don't think you should be worried.

Green Star Polyps can sometimes take a day or two to come out. They don't like detritus on them so maybe try and use a turkey baster of some kind and give them a good cleaning. Water movement is essential but not to extreme, or they won't come out. Not very demanding in terms of light and don't require target feeding. They should be fine and will open up eventually so don't worry. For piece of mind check your water parameters! CONGRATS on your first coral!!!

I think they waited until I had posted my message to emerge.

The lights have been on for 3 hours now and just about all of the polps have their tentacles out. I'm psyched.

Now that I have this species I've begun reading up on them. (I know, I should have done my homework first...I almost always do!) I've read in a couple places about dosing iodine, but no where on testing its levels. Are there iodine tests out there or do I just dose without testing? <gasp>

I use seachem iodine test. Your level should be at 0.06.

I also use the Seachem Iodide and Iodine test. Don't know of any others, but there may be some around.
