A friend of mine is in construction and has come across a few metal halides pulled out of a warehouse-type store. I know the sodium bulbs are junk (for me), but any thoughts on if the 150W ballast and cone reflector would work suspended 8-12" over my 29 gal? If so, anyone want to trade me some T5 supplementals for a 30" PC? :)

The ballast would work but the cone shaped reflector will be an eye sore over your tank. I have the same set up but I use 3x400w ballast and bought a parabolic reflector to put the bulbs under. I run Pacific Coast Sunlight bulbs in the 14k spectrum.

Thanks Otty! I may grab one or two to have on hand, although saving the $$$ now for something I won't use for a while and requires a fair bit of DIY might be a pain.
