I currently have a 400W Magnetic ballast. Which I must say gets nice and warm through out the day but also makes a humming noise. I was wondering if I could switch this out for a pulse start ballast? Would this help with humming or do they do the same.

    Thanks for the help

You could got to a electric ballast. That would not have the noise.

Yes, indeed it is. For a 400 watt ballast that would be an ANSI M59 Ballast.
I just put in a XM 20k bulb last night and I can't wait to see what it looks like when I get home. :)
