MH, T5 and LED: Which is Best?

No, although many advanced aquarists have told us they tried LEDs and after 6 months went back to MH, T5 or a combination of the two. Even some members of our staff feel this way—several of whom have the luxury of testing the best LED lights the hobby has to offer. So food for thought.

Another MD staffer states he prefers MH lights in this blog post, although he also touches on the benefits of LEDs:

"The price of a mid to high-end LED aquarium light is probably going to cost more than a metal halide system. The benefits, however, cannot be ignored. LED lights run cooler, so you most likely won’t need a fan or chiller. The wattages are often less, so you’ll save money on your electric bill. You won’t have to replace the bulbs annually. Plus all the other perks, like infinite control options and color combinations."
