Hi,
Metal Gone is a mineral sold to remove heavy metal from water. With it and Chloradsorb, it would be not necessary to use RO water. I use it with succes in my 15 gallon reef tank. Today, this topic is not to talk about it's reall use and if it work or not.
Metal gone was actually made to do an other job: to kill green hair algae. For some reason, it has been put on the marcket for an other use.
I'm curious so I made my experiments. I have use about 5 oz of metal gone with one dose of Right Now Bacteria. Metal Gone is supose to remove what alga need to grow and then, Right Now Bacteria consume the the weakened algae. As I said, the product is not sold for that but I think it's worth the try.
Results: results are not quick. for 1 month, I made weekly 10% water change and waited. After that month, the green algae problem was gone. Since then, I allways keep a small quantity of Metal Gone in my filter.
I also made the experiment using Metal Gone salt water in my fresh water planted tank. What a mess. I should have thought that not only the algae would suffer but also the plants. One month later, most of my plants are death (even the java fern that is allmost impossible to kill!).
I am about to say it work really well to kill green hair algae. What I like is that there is no chemical involve in this. I would like to do some more experiment but unfortunatly I don't have any algae problem at this time (you only get them when you don't want them

).
So, I thought I could find some prople here who would like to give this a try. I don't want to make anyone buy something to make an experiment so I'll pay for the Metal Gone and Right Now Bacteria if someone is willing to pay for shipping. I don't want to spend to much on this so I will only give 8oz of Metal Gone plus 1 dose of right now bacteria to 2 person who have a small tank (20 gallon or less) with green algae problem.
This way we can compair our results and close that case.
So if anyone is interested just send me a PM
