So, I just picked up a beautiful 7 head neon green torch coral. Awesome coral.

Now, I just noticed my peppermint shrimp picking at it. Eating pieces of the tips off. Will I have to get rid of my peppermint shrimp??? He's well fed, and I whacked him with a net off of the coral, but now the tentacle is all deflated and others are retracting. ???? Help ...

I'm GUESSING that the torch was more expensive than the shrimp..so I'd be taking the shrimp for a little ride to the fish store if i were you

Yea, just a bit more expensive.

He's fast as hell, but eats out of my hand so I can probably catch him that way. I thawed and fed an entire cube of mysis shrimp to keep the little bugger busy. He eats like a horse. I mean, he will eat like nothing I've ever seen before. Greedy. The fish and crabs will take care of the rest, heh.

the head is closed up and he literally bit off a tentacle which is floating through the tank. Dammit. I hope the torch can recover...

peppermints have a rep as being consumers of Aiptasia nems (some will, some wont it seems)

torch corals may not seem disimilar to your peppermint

+1 on above - the shrimp needs to be nothing but a memory later today

His behavior sounds a lot more like a camel shrimp which looks very similar to a pep.

Dangit - I get attached to critters in my tank. Guess I will have to take him in tomorrow. Hopefully the torch is alright over night. He never has bothered anything in my tank before, even an anemone and frogspawn.

Well, my peppermint shrimp met his demise tonight. I saw him going after my torch again and I netted him and put him in my sump. I was going to take him to the LFS tomorrow to trade in. Well, the poor thing got to closed to the intake on the Mag 12 and I forgot I had no strainer on it until it was too late.

    He got skimmed.

    I feel bad. :(
