Here is my new coral, its about softball size and i got it for 49.99... I saw this orange substance on the side of the skeleton and was wondering what it was, It is hard to the touch, not slimy, and i couldnt peel it off. any ideas? is it harmful?

Nice looking coral. The orange substance is either coralline algae or a sponge either way safe.

If it has tiny holes in it, then it is most definately a sponge! Harmless... :) Very nice coral you have there!
