Default Non-aqua rock as base rock?

I came across this rock. i know it may sound crazy, but I'm thinking about putting it through a nasty nuke cycle, probably including a torch and then a couple bleach-water-bleach-water-water-water baths and using it for a base rock.

Bad idea or no?

TIA

I personally wouldn't, the minerals could leach out of the rock for years no matter what you do to it, like lava rock. However i'm no expert.

Actually that's a pretty good point. I hadn't thought about the long term mineral stuff, I was just thinking short term parasite stuff... Hmmm....

Yeah, the reason most rocks cannot be used is because of their mineral make-up. You need a non-silica based rock. This is the reason that calcium carbonate rocks, such as aragonite or dolomite (i believe) are used as substrate and base rock.

Evan.
