He couldn't see into the tank because the sand was kicked up in the water. It has settled down since then.

My guess is that it might be bleached coralline, or algae of some sort simply died off of it.

Then again, I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to this subject.

Fishflyer: I wasn't able to see at first b/c i only waited 36hrs before adding the live rock and from what the LFS said the salt is still disolving. and the live rock was coated with white stringy sutff a few days after i added and the salt disolved, i did happen to rinse the rock off with saltwater in a 5gal bucket and it took most of the white stuff off but it still does look like it when i got it from saltwaterfish.com(Ultra Premium Fiji Live Rock 20-25lbs) you can see what it did look like on that site. The LR is Pre-cured as the site says.

Viper, This is normal. Your LR will change a bit during the first couple of weeks. Typically the Coraline Algae will bleach out. this is OK because it will come back if all things are correct.

I'm not sure if I like the answer your LFS told you for the cloudy water. it was likely you sand that caused the cloudy water. Most salt manufacture strive for very fast disolved rates. I have never had cloudy water because of salt. The white sediment on your LR was the fine particals of sand settling on your rock

Ya I would second the sediment from the sand as the reason the rock had the white film on it especially if it came right off when you rinsed it. From that pic it looks like a bit of the coralin has bleached also. Just keep your water parameters up and add two parts time and one part patients and it will come around. Good luck.
