Thumbs down Live rock web site

Has anyone bought live rock from liverocknreef.com? They say all their rock comes right from the ocean and there is no need to cure it. Should I buy from them? Rick

Honestly I'd be scared to take LR straight from the ocean and toss it into my tank, god knows what kind of stuff is in there

I would love to get some rock straight from the ocean but I think that is illegal and by the time you shipped it there would be a lot of die off and it might mess up your tank. I would be interested to see what kind of life forms came on the rock though. I wouldn't try it on an established tank but a new one maybe.

HAHA does'nt need to be cured!!!!

What is the reason to cure live rock in the first place??????

OK well its simple, to to let the organizims that are on the rock that have died off during the transportation from the sea to the store (which can be days) decay and prevent a larger ammonia spike in the home aquarium also let the organizum that are alive recouperate.

So in other words you will be doing a cure when you add them to your tank and if you have an established tank and add to much of this uncured live rock you may just unwhittingly start a cycle in your tank.

ummm, if they put the rock in the ocean and let it sit for a yr or two its not illegal, its how most LR is obtained

Default no curing LOL

What's the big deal with curing rock,i put it in my basement, and the smell stays there.I've done it twice, and would do it again,it's what i prefer, nice fresh rock.As you can read on there webste,it's live when they ship it,but it's your responsibility if your livestock dies !!.Yes if you add more than a few rocks, all depends on your tank size, amount of rock. You will get a spike and fish, shrimp, etc. WILL DIE.
