Default fiji purple algae live rock

Im using a 10k MH i noticed the top surface live rocks are turning white,it had purple algae,is it because too much lighting

Possibly due to too much light. Were the rocks out of water for a length of time? Are they new live rock added to your tank?

The top row of rocks in my tank, the thops of those rocks, are also white. I'm pretty sure in my case it is because there is so much light up there. As far as the rest of my tank, coraline is growing well. I'm curious to see where this thread goes

How big is your tank, got a pic? How far is your lighting from the rock in question. How long is your lighting cycle?

tank 24long,14deep,20high -9inches away from the MH,9am-9pm and actinc 7am -10pm i wonder if i use a compact florescent 12000k with actinc would that be better for my rocks? because i setting up another 55 gallon with live fiji purple rocks. what you think?
