although it seems that many people don't do this, if you don't have that much lr, you can do two things to make it more visually pleasing.
1. make up pvc supports. All you need is some .5 in. pvc pipe and fitting, you can build a scaffold to stack the rock up on. Make 'U' sort of shapes with the pipe
2. Instead of spreading it out, make a single peak on one side that tapers off to the other, this also allows a nice open side so the fish can swim freely.

these are just thoughts. It just seems to me that after looking at people's tanks on this site, that nearly everyone just piles up all the way across the tank. Try to make it interesting

Are your base rocks just setting on the sand? IMO you need to put them on the glass then fill the sand in around them to give some stability. Then you can stack rocks on top of them. If you ever get anything that is a sand sifter it will eventually burrow under the rocks and topple everything.

I don't have alot of live rock either so this is what I did to make it a little more presentable. Also they are stacked right on top of each other coming slightly inward the higher it goes to make kind of a cave. Good luck and hope it helps.

The base rock have been laid on the sand and then gently twisted all the way to the bottom untill they firmly touch the glass, the only sand under the rocks will be in any gaps, i like the idea of this, i think it will give the rock a bit more support and not as much pressure on the glass from sharp rock, make sense?
The light coloured rock is actually a bit of ocean rock i put in, hopeing it will cure in time...
