Walking by the Ushio booth at MACNA I couldn't help but notice them playing with seriously bright LED lamps - the Ushio 'Synergy' MR-16 LED lamps to be precise. These 'general lighting' LED lamps have three 4 watt LEDs that could kill a goat. (Check out the PAR pic.) My jaw dropped as the Ushio rep beamed the rafters in the convention hall with a bright spot from easily 100 feet away. These 50,000 hour, fully dimmable, 6500k LED lamps might not be made for reefing, but they made me wonder when the time will come.

    wow - 4 watts

seen some 3 x 3 watt GU10 options here , and they out perform in terms of lumens a 50 watt GU10 ( Osram used for comparison purposes)

save 90% plus of the running costs also

problem at present is they are over 10 bucks each if you opt for quality Eddison/ Cree/ Nichia options ( China ex factory prices) which means at retail prices it becomes ridiculous, hence progress to convert is slow
