    Watts per gallon is irrelevant, especially with LEDs.

    then when we are choosing LEDs to set up, what are we suppose to look for if not wattage? The name brand?

    You look at PAR, more or less it's all about the PAR values at any given depth that will tell you what can or can not be kept in a tank under certain lighting.

    I have a 29g Biocube that has a depth around 15"

    What do you think of the 3watt Luxeon LEDs? How many RB and CW's do you think I would need to grow clams and SPS?

    multiply your tank's lenght x width, you'll get the surafe area, divide the surface area by;
    10 if you want to burn your corals bright
    15 if you want SPS (most people use)
    20 for LPS/softies
    ----------------
    after you divide the surface area, that's the number of LED's youd want.

    you cant go with watts/gal with LED's.

    Thats not a very good way to do it either. optics and brand of led will change that very quickly.

    i have 5 par38s over my 65g so that would be 25 leds. so according to that math i would be below the lps amount of leds. yet i have sps and a clam on the sandbed.
