Whats wrong with STARFISH?

My starfish is not looking so hot. What is happening to him? He looks like one of his legs is dissolving. I know that sometimes they can loose limbs and regrow them but, i believe from the looks of him that:-[ he has seen better days.

 

it kind of looks like its made its way into the body of the star. I wouldnt get your hopes up. Sorry

Yeah that is pretty much it when they start to dissolve unfortunately.

Check your SG and or pH or alk.

Sometimes a leg or two will hang in there and wander around (kind of creepy) but usually they just melt away.

 

Looks like he is dissolving away Sorry.

 

If it starts to really go, you need to get it out of your tank. Doesn't look so good, sorry.

I would. once they get that far gone, there's really not much hope.

If you have another tank. I would cut the good legs off close to the body. and place them in other tanks. A starfish can grow a whole new body from an eigth of a leg.
But the part that is desolving now is clearly far gone.

My suggestion might seem morbid but cutting it up is better then tossing it. After all Doctors remove bad tissue and pray for good growth everyday.

 

i had a choclate chip do this exact same thing, only it was a lot worse, i cut away the infected part but it just kept coming. until it eventually just stopped, he was almost half gone but i just left him in there and he continued living in the tank for another year or so until i sold it. dont know what causes it though.
