Update: Chocolate Chip

Well, I get home from work today and my CC star was on his back on the bottom of the tank. I tested everything and here is what I have...

77-78 degrees f
1.023-1.024 SG
8.0-8.1 PH
0 ammonia
0 nitrates
0 nitrites
5.5 meq/l alkalinity
15.4 dKH

The rest of the fish are swimming and looking vibrant. I found him on his back. When I fished him out his arms were stiff. I googled it and with the necrosis it was probably a bacterial infection. I'm nervous now that it may harm my other fishes. Could this be a problem???

How old is your tank? And do you have a grounding probe in it?

It's a month old and I don't have a grounding probe.

I used stability and damsels to cycle the tank at the advise of my LFS. Which now I know reading on line is totally not the way to go, but my tests have always been spot on. My live rock is growing all sorts of corraline and other stuff. The fish are doing great and seem to be at ease and happy.

It could be that you had an overnight ammonia or other spike in the tank. It happens often in new tanks so that combined with the fact that your tank is far too young to support sensitive inverts like starfish is probably what did the starfish in.

You're probably going to want to add a ground probe to your tank in the near future.
