Unhappy Two Questions - Mushroom to slime?

Hi all -

I got a blue/green (thick) mushroom from the frag store this weekend. Seemed to be doing fine, moving itself under a rock. Yesterday it was nothing but a pile of slime... What happened??? I have other mushrooms that are doing great - and nothing else except for the next question - seems amiss. Found Calcium and Alk were high - but everything else is fine.

Also - bought a cynarina that was open and beautiful in the store. It has never reopened since I brought it home. It's hole in the middle seems to change size so I don't think it is dead. Is there any chance it will come back and open? I know they are sensitive to water - could the Ca/Alk be causing the problem? Got it the same time I got the mushroom but from different LFS.

Thank you for the help!

Welcome Shanna! What kind of lighting was the frag under and what kind of lighting do you have? What did you do as far as acclimating those corals?

Thanks in advance and hopefully we can help.

If your acclimation, or lack there of, time period was not done slow enough, alot of times you can kill a coral, fish or invert. Try to place the coral in your tank at a comporable height as that of the tank at the pet shop wher you bought it from. Obviously you have to take into consideration if they are using comporable lights and size of tank of yours and make adjustments. Better to start lower in your tank than higher and work your way up especially with metal halides so that you don't burn or bleach your corals.
AS well-WELCOME!!!!!!hope this helped!
