Some species are reef-safe. You'll need to research that as well as adult size, diet, etc to find one you can properly care for.

Best thing I ever did for my zoas and other softies was getting rid of my long spine urchin. Beautiful creature but I like the zoas more.

Sounds good. Is it a matter of breeds then maybe?

They will keep your coralline algae in check...which I believe is a good thing. I have had one for a few years, no problem as a nuisance....though I believe it to be culpable to the broken horns on my Birds Nest !! : )

I had one as a hitch hiker in my 20 gallon for a long time, about a year or so without any eal problems just make sure you know ahead of time that they are bulldozers and will move what they need to out of the way.

I have a longspine in my 75g. I did have it mow down a fresh bought single poylp of magician's paly once. Outside of that I havent had any problems. I added the paly and it was gone the next morning so I cant confirm it was culprit but it was i nthe immediate area when the lights came on. I have several other varities of zoas & polyps that it hasnt touched. Almost makes me wonder if there wasnt something wrong with the paly & it was nature taking its course.

One thing I did notice and am kind of concerned about is growth. It was fairly little when I got it but now I would say its about 6 inches across now from spinetip to spine tip. That makes me wonder how big it is going to get and if it will reach a point of crowding or becoming a fish obstacle.
