Sea Apple, OK?

I just purchased a sea apple at my local pet store after the fish guy told me about how cool they are. I then started reading about them on the internet and found out they could be poisonous if stressed. I have only had my tank for about 5 months and I am not ready for such a risky inhabatant. Does anyone know much about these or has anyone had success with one?

Also, I all of a sudden have a string like dark red algae. What is this?

The dark, red algae is probably not algae at all, but is cyanobacteria(slime) and should dissipate through time. Try to syphon it out of your tank and watch excessive feeding and increase wate rflow for optimal results.
Now for the Sea Apple...I would not keep a Sea Apple as it will release toxic gasses when stressed or dies!Aquarium Invertebrates

They also spawn on a full moon releasing their nasty toxins.I had one for 3 months and noticed it starting to swell up one day.It had firmly attatched itself to a rock on the bottom of a stack so I had to do a heap of dismantling and get it in a bucket still on the rock.2 hours later it went berserk and spewed a huge quantity of thick milky scum into the bucket.It totally killed everything on the live rock.Tube worms ,anenomies and all sorts of critters.I gave it to my LFS and a month later it did the same thing.A good friend had one wipe out an 8 ft reef system while he was at work.They're very pretty to look at but not in a tank.Leave them in the ocean.
