Default Plate Coral

Hi all...well as some of you might remember

A couple of months ago i rescued a purple plate coral from death...

there was only 1/4 of it alive..well now its doing great but...there are 3 large bubble algaes on it! should i try to pull them off or?...also in the dead skeleton there seems to be alot of sand and stuff...i try to get it out...but i can only do so much...if i break the skeleton thats dead will the coral regrow it?...or is that a no no...is it ok if the coral grows over it...like it is...or will the bacteria cause gas and make the coral pop? ugh...but other than that its great!...i love watching it eat the hugs formula 2 flakes

Is this montipora capricornis? These monti's are fragged by cracking pieces off it's plate. Of course, do this only if you know what you are doing. The plate itself is said to be very fragile, I would leave it alone and let it re-encrust the old skeleton. As for the bubble algae, I would take it out, as it will probably bother it in the long run. It's funny you bring it up, I removed a small algea bubble a day ago, popped right off without bursting, it was kinda hard in feel. I would take it off and pry it gently and dip the coral afterwards.

Hold the plate up side down and sideways, this will help any trap air to come out. Trap air kills plate coral.
