Ok, I have a 45 gallon FOWLR tank with 2 blue green chromis, 1 firefish, 2 turbo snails, half dozen hermits, 1 decorator crab, 1 tiger pistol and 1 chocolate star.

Question 1 - Does the chocolate star pose any risk to the fish since they are all the type to sleep in the rock at night?

Question 2 - does the star pose a risk to the pistol shrimp as a crunchy snack?

Yes to both. They aren't really reef safe.

good to know mr starfish is going to take a ride tomorrow then.

I knew they would eat corals and such so I put it in the fowlr but never thought it to be a risk to the other livestock.

Yeah I know several people over the years that had one grab a dragonette or sleeping anthias. Its not super common but its like peppermint shrip. In ten years I've had 10, two of them kill LPS pretty past. I dont like the odds.

Yes, any time I go to one particular LFS here, I get to see it happening live LOL. They keep the chocolate chip stars in with the astrea snails and there's always at least one starfish eating an astrea right on the front glass and the bottom of the tank is full of empty shells! Then you get to overhear them telling someone they're reef safe! ::)
