Default Pictures of 'Pods

OK--the last time I created a post "Never thought I'd get a pic of a 'pod" the nice educated folks here let me know that they weren't pods, but hydroids.

Now I have some pods, and I'd like to show them off. I told them if they reproduced copiously I'd take them out to dinner. Well, reproduce they did. I think I might buy a mandarin today, and throw him in the 'fuge!

These are taken off the glass of the 'fuge; but they're all over the main tank too. Using a flashlight at night, I can see them walking all over the closed zoo polyps.

Oh yeah, when I mentioned taking them out for dinner, one even let me take an ultra close-up; while holding up a sign!! The way to a 'pod's heart is thru it's stomach!!

Why put a mandarin in the fuge where you'll never see it (and where it will eat pods faster than they can reproduce).

Should I just put the mandarin in the display tank then? My concern was that it wouldn't find enough. They ARE all over, though. . .

I've never had a copepod-dependant fish; and I guess I don't know how much is enough.

very bad idea, the whole point of having the fuge is to have a safe haven for critters beneficial for the system. the pvc tubes in the ruge should help multiply the pods to keep the mandarin alive in the main tank.

just one little sps frag tank with lots of goodies

Absolutely. If you've got pods in the fuge, you've got pods in the main tank. The refugium provides the pods a place where they can grow and reproduce without the threat of predators so unless something drastic happens, you should have a constant supply of pods for your mandarin

Thanks guys! BTW, guru, I did do the PVC thing as your suggested about a week ago.

I guess a mandarin in a fuge is like a pinup model in a desk drawer, huh?

Guru told me that adding a bit of pvc sections in the sump or fuge will encourage pod breeding. It seems to have worked. I've read in other places too that pods will multiply if given safe haven; i.e. such as provided by rubble or pieces of tubing.
