Default Peppermint Shrimp

I was reading that peppermint shrimp's favorite treat is glass anemones. I almost ran out and bought a couple but then thought, if they like glass anemones, wouldn't they pick at my sebae and my bubble tip?

Anyone have any insight?

I'm not sure what glass anemones are classified as (aiptasia or not) but they primarily will eat aiptasia (which is why many use them to control it).

1st things first, you have a sebae and BTA in the same tank? <may be a problem later from everything I've read.

But anyway, peps will leave your nems alone. The only shrimp I've heard of bothering anemones are cleaners. They will steal food as well as annoy the nem so it craps. < Some learn that it isnt a fieces factory and some don't and try to pester it 24/7 to get a meal

Sebae will be going into a larger tank in a few months. I completed building a 185gal glass/ plywood / acrylic tank yesterday. Now I need to finish the sump / fuge and incorporate the plumbing to the 2 tanks. The 29 gal will be for my clowns / reef and the 185 will be for larger fish / eel. Thanks for the peppermint feedback. +1

The peps will be a good addon if they survive long. I have found it is best to get a small group of them and the larger the better. I think in the last few yrs I have purchased about 20. I finally have about 5 of them living in a cave where they will even clean my fish slightly when my cleaner and fire shrimp are being lazy. As a group as well you stand a better chance of actually seeing and finding them in your tank as they like to hide.

The peppermints will not bother anything else in the tank. Though, if you are having a problem with pest anemones, you should not put that much faith in the little shrimps. I would say its at best 50/50 with only very small anemones. The best way I found (havent tried Joes Juice) is to feed the anemones kalkwasser.

I have 3 of the pesky anemones right now and I was looking for something to ensure this never becomes a problem. My LFS has lots of them in every tank and every rock I purchase from them will be sure to have at least 1.

I would go for the shrimp. It won't hurt. I have on in my 65 G and it keeps things in check. The shrimp lasts about 9 months it seems. I have had a couple over the past couple of years, I buy them one at a time. You never see the darn things unless you happen to be up in the middle of the night. But I can tell when he is in there and doing a good job....by the number of atipasia's. I have had none for the past 6-9 months and now I have a few, which makes me think my shrimp has passed on. I am going to get another this weekend and see if the anemeones go away again.

Default SKunk shrimp steal food

HI,
my favorite clowns take care of my LTA in my tanks and the sneaky little skunk will sneak up and steal a piece, very risky cause my clowns don't like anyone near their LTA ( I ve been bit a few times by my clown re=positioninga LTA)
I guess I wouldn't want anyone moving my favorite couch around either.
Doug

The four of them fight over the striped one and the larger plain one its funny they all try to squezze into one at a time when the other one is empty.

The only "problem" I've seen so far is when my shrimp tried to clean one of the hermit crab's shell. The crab didn't like it much and kept grabbing the shrimp's leg. Eventually the shrimp gave up and went back to it's favorite hiding spot.
