Noticed Iodine seem to help

HI,
I ve noticed that adding iodine seems to cause the shrimp to molt better.
I watch the peppermints if they look dark or gray I add a few drop and overnight they all molt, I don't add any till they darken again.
Hey it seems to work and I don't overdose the iodine, its only needed when they molt right..

ps how long do these things live I ve had several for over 6 mos. and they all seem pretty perky they always sway alot and try to look like they are part of the alage. they seem to be getting darker stripes as they age.Some get eggs and then they disapear after a few weeks and get more, probably food for the fish... hehe

I don't have an Iodine test kit. Pretty much depend on IO doing frequent water changes.

But I agree, I think my creatures have done better over time adding a little iodine regularly.

I use Kent Marine Iodine, but never more then a capfull a week in my 125.

Only thing I ever add, besides giving Ca a little "bump" now and then.

Iodine does make them pass through a molt and is needed But don't go crazy adding it use a good full spectrum additive and add it at 1/2 the recommended dosage and also add it 1/2 as often as directed. Iodine is a problem when added to much I had a guy to call me several weeks ago his 180 SPS tank had problems corals where faded , lacking color not opening their polyps and so on .. After 2 weeks of deduction of issues come find out he was adding iodine (: he stopped and added carbon usage all is well now .. Iodine also feed the hell out of algae..I never dose it myself..shrimps do just fine.. I add 10 mi of Kent's essential elements every 2 week o 200 gallon of water..

Iodine is a wonder drug/supplement!!!!!!
IMO, if you just dose with iodine, you will have such dramatic positive results with inverts as well as corals and Clams!!!!!!
Just be careful as Iodine can be lethal in large doses!!!!!

I think that everybody should have a good look see at the article from R-H. Farley. As much as I hate to quote experts, what he says in this article will tell you all you need to know about iodine and several reasons why it should not be used. If you do regular water changes, all of the iodine you need is replenished so if you supplement in addition to water changes, you're asking for trouble, period. There are so few organisms that have been scientifically proven to actually use iodine that it's supplementation is practically unnecessary.
