Muderous Hermit!

The mysterious killer has struck again- I found "Crazy Crab" the hermit dining on my feather duster... the last thing in the tank I liked. And I'm missing a damsel- hopefully he's hiding somewhere. Skimmer and pumps on full, water change in the morning.

I now suspect that the death of the first crab, anemone, clown, and random astreas can be blamed on this little sh%^&*@d! I suppose he'll go back to the LFS when they open (that one not til Thursday).

And the tank cycles on... sigh.

What kind of hermit is it?
Can you take a picture?
Does it have large claws and is it large in size?
I'm not totally sure, but I am willing to bet that your hermit isn't responsible for your livestock death, atleast directly associated with it.
It may look like you hermit is feeding on the feather but, in essence, it may be that it is just feeding on algae or food scraps around the duster.
Hermits actually attacking and killing fish is very rare if not impossible, as I have never heard of such a thing happening, nor have I witnessed something like that happening. Their is probably another underlying factor or factors causing this dilemna!
I could be wrong...but in my many years of partaking in this hobby, this sounds rather odd for a hermit to be solely responsible, thats all!
Hopefully you can find the true reason as to what is going on!

Red hairy hermits are aggresive and will attack and eat stuff! Not reef safe in the slightest!

Well, he'e red and hairy, so there ya go. He definitely ate the feather duster- tore into about 3/4" of the tube. The water was filled with mucous and the "fronds" were hanging out, totally limp and closed.

So far everything I've picked up from that particular shop (Aquatrader San Bruno) has been a problem. No more livestock from them!
