So I've got a Lysiosquillina Maculata coming soon and I have a question regarding the tank setup. I've read enough to know that this particular mantis shrimp loves deep-burrow-friendly bedding. However, does anyone with actual experience with this particular mantis shrimp know if it will be fine and happy without super-deep bedding? I'm worried about the mantis shrimp becoming very unsettled with the tank.

Yeppers...altho what you can do is get some black ABS pipe with some T's and/or 45* angles (Y) and let the mantis use that. It will be dark enuff, and you can hide it with LR and rubble.

Some peeps split the pipe and place the open half against the panes of the tank so you can see the mantis in the cross-sectioned "burrow". however, the mantis should still have a dark area to retreat to.

    BTW, L. maculata gets large...
