curly qs arent so stringy. thats aiptaisa. and dont try ripping it off, it will only multiply that way. Get syringe, and fill with kalkwasser or lemon juice, and inject into its base. pick up some peppermint shrimp to eat any fledglings it may have made.

Thats a curly q anemone (Bartholomea annulata).

EDIT:They are in the same family as aiptasia, but get much bigger. They are also known as "corkscrew anemone" so cutingras was correct as well.

No anemone is trully safe. They are more for decoration and not for serving any purpose. That particular kind was kept under poor lighting which explains the dark coloration.

Thanks Geek! I have read hours and hours worth of material on anemone's. A while ago, Amcarrig posted a link to an article by a woman, that hit the nail on the head, and convinced me to NEVER take another one out of the ocean, EVER again. I think we should be breeding them and then acclimating them back into the ocean. We take them out and acclimated them to our tanks...What's the difference? They do so much for a reef. Taking them out is a big problem with what's going on in the ocean. We're taking out and the only thing we're putting back is toxins. Shame on us.

Oh man sorry bout the rant
