| I Hate my Starfish Long story, short: My Chocolate Chip Seastar tried to eat my anemone.
This evening I found the Seastar engulfing my anemone, which had been doing great for the 3 weeks since I got her. I pulled Chippy off, gave him a piece of shrimp in a different corner of the tank. Anemone is shrunken, looks stricken, but no obvious damage.
What should I do about the anemone? What about the Seastar?
BTW, I didn't have any problems with an earlier, smaller Choc Chip. I had a large, beautiful H. Malu in the same tank with it until the anemone was accidently injured. If my current anemone dies, it would be the third anemone that I've lost in the past 6 months.

2 Serpent Stars, Ocelaris Clown, Yellow Tang, Green Chromis damsel, Condalactis & Macrodactyla dorensis anemones, 1 big bristleworm, 1 small Banded Coral shrimp. |

| | 3reef Moderator | Ya CC Star fish are not reef safe and should not be kept with things like anemones. It's really important to research what you put in your tank. As thinks like this will happen. Odds are the Anemone is dieing

| Wow SAW, I'm kinda surprised you didn't know those CC stars are voracious carnivores and will devour anything meaty. I think it could eat fish if it could catch them. The red general stars are also a no no.

| When I first started I had a green sea star and ate all of my polyps. You live and learn, and now I research everything, even if I know about it, I double check.
I hope your anemone recovers.

| And I was just admiring the picture you posted the other day of your clown and anemone.
Hopefully the anemone will recover, I guess only time will tell.
Make sure it doesn't nuke your tank. I know you knew the cc star was not reef safe. But, probably like me you didn't think it would try and eat a stinging anemone.. That sucks. Karma to ya.

| Well, the anemone has died. I'll be talking to my LFS, to see if I can get store credit in exchange for my Chocolate Chip Seastar.
Jason, Rickzter: Yes, I should have known better. I was keeping this Star primarily based on my good experience with a smaller, less aggressive Chocolate Chip. Like Reef lover said, "Live and learn" or as my Dad once told me, "The hard lessons are the best lessons."
Thanks to all for your responses. |

| Sorry about the anemone SAW39 and karma to you.
I know you're kind of p*ssed-off but don't blame the starfish, it just did what came naturally, no? |

| The only reason I put c.c. stars in my tank is to feed my harlequin shrimp. Even then, I watch it very carefully and make sure that it doesn't wander much before the shrimp finds it. |
