Do they need a mate or can one reproduce by itself?

Stomatella are boardcast spawners, at times you may notice little puffs of what appears to be smoke coming from the rock work. I have found that if you have hermit crabs, they will eat the larva and small ones, resulting in a small population of stomatella. Without hermits and adequate film algae you can get quite a healthy population of stomatella established.
