I have had the same issues. It appears if I look at my BTA the wrong way it splits. It's never been a concern because all the splits do very well after. My only problem is the wondering after the split. So I wait a couple of weeks until they have settled that I sell them.

I have never noticed any significant changes in the BTA before it splits. mind you it's easy to tell when it's started. They seem to literally rip themselves in two
