| HITCHHIKER I found my first hitchhikers this weekend. I found a dozen or so feather dusters. There really tiny does anyone know if they will grow to the size of the featherdusters sold in stores. Also I found this worm like thing crawling on the rock going in and out of holes. It looks like a centipede (it has alot of legs). Is this a good or bad hitchhiker?????? _________ http://www.3reef.com/uploads/Joe1.jpg&&[glow=red,2,300]Another great sig by Nautilus&&[/glow] 75gal Oceanic Reef Ready, 4x96 Power Compact, 20gal Sump, Protein Skimmer, 5 stage RO/DI Typhoon, 100lbs Live Sand, 100lbs Live Rock, 50 Assorted Snails, 70 Assorted Hermit Crabs, Sandsifter Star, 2 cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, coral banded shrimp, orange linkia star, emerald crab, sea slug, 2 Clarks Clownfish, BTA, Lawnmower Blenny, Kole Tang, Spotted Watchman Goby, 6-line Wrasse, Engineer Goby, Soft and LPS corals |

| Re: HITCHHIKER Centipede? Is it red or pink? It might be a bristle worm---bad. The little dusters, mmmmmm, doubt they'd grow as big, but you will see them for a while and they are a sign that your tank is doing good. You will find all sorts of life growing off of your rock. | Re: HITCHHIKER Not to contradict David, but at a recent SEABAY meeting in the S.F. Bay Area, Anthony Calfo said that all polycheates (worms) are pretty much reef safe. Bristle worms and fire worms are both important scavangers and detritous/sand stirrers for the reef.
I agree with David that the little dusters you find in the rock generally won't exceed a quarter in diameter.

| Re: HITCHHIKER I figured they wouldn't get bigger but I had a glimmer of hope since they have the brown and white circles on the feather part like the larger dusters do |

| Re: HITCHHIKER As with all polytoxins, some people are more allergic than others. That's why I wear gloves in the tank. |

  | Re: HITCHHIKER i agree on the bristleworm thing if you got one you probably got lots more. they multiply fast but are great scavegeners when they do go after someting its usually alredy dead or dying anyway. they do not go after healthy living creatures.
the feather dusters may get the size of a quarter or so but not like the hawaiian feather dusters. they can multiply a lot but there good to have. this is an older pic i havent updated in quite a while but take a look to the right of the halmedia plant u can see all the dusters. i only started out with a couple dusters |
