| Growing fast and getting hungry..... All of my rock anemones are now huge in comparison to the original size....and and have a taste for shrimpand gobies!!!! My gorgeous RA just consumed a Harlequin shrimp (H. pictus), possibly some pepperments, and a yellow clown goby with alarming speed. I had 2 pepperment shrimp as well and they are now mia. After a bit of digging i have found that they reach asize of 10"! I think they may be headed to a new home when they hit 6"(within the next few months @ thier new rate). Just want to give anyone whith small shrimp or RA's a heads up. My brother told me about the first one (the harlequin) and i was highly doubtfull.....and this morning after searching for my goby i saw the bulge in my anemone and a portion of his fin protruding from the RA's mouth. All critters were in good health, my glutenous RA is only about 4". At least he was well fed.... _________ Yes, tiny has an 11" legspan...... |

I retired the reef for now. Maybe a nano or a softies tank in the future when I have both time and money. 60 gallon FOWLR in the meantime. My echidna nebulosa are still going strong! |

| Re: Growing fast and getting hungry..... I wonder if they would be less predacious if you feed them regularly? Have you been feeding them meaty foods? Like krill or silversides? How often?

Without any scientific data to back me up, I'm under the impression that they cannot "turn off" their nematocysts so even if they're well fed, if something touches their tentacles, the anemone will react and trap and ingest the animal. *If the animal is too large for the anemone to ingest or if the anemone is not hungry, it will spit the animal out (which will most likely be dead or close to it). * |

Before YOU go completely 'off topic' as normal, I agree with what you wrote.
If you consider the fact that Anemomes are 'brainless' creatures who can not think but can only react then it makes sense that it will try to kill and devour at every opportunity :-)
