Green BTA

Well, I decided to start a new thread on this one. I bought a new, green BTA today. It seems nice and healthy, the tips are quite bulbous, and the mouth looks good (hush amcarrig

)

This one has a great purple base and hopefully this manages to live. I'll keep everyone posted.

My experience with these is they like MH lighting and at least a year old tank. But some reefers were successful keeping them in PC/VHO. BTW it will find it's spot and stay there. Have fun!

Thanks! I just lost one that I think was sick from go, but this little critter is awesome so far. The tentacles are fluorescent green and glow like crazy under the actinic lights.

Tentacles all sticky and attached to something at the store?

I'm one of those folks who don't think that you need MH to keep anemones. Before I upgraded to 660 watts of VHO, I successfully kept 3 bubble tips and a carpet anemone under 440 watts of VHO on my 90 gallon.

Avoid target feeding your new anemone. Because they expend a lot of energy to eat and.....em.....poo, you'll want to avoid making them use their energy for anything but getting settled

Yep, the tentacles are pretty sticky, the mouth looks like an "outie" belly button and it was holding on to a small piece of live rock. It moved around quite a bit last night and decided to stop about 6 inches from spot where I put it, hiding in a crack in a rock in the front. I think it's trying to look like a fluorescent ricordia

Sounds like you got a good one!

It'll probably move around a bit more until it finds its ultimate happy place. Once it decides to be more photogenic, post a pic!

I think it found it's happy place as it hasn't left the crack in the rock since day 1. I'm wondering if I should start feeding the thing. I've heard that I shouldn't try unless the tentacles are fully extended, which it only seems to do at night. During the day, it looks green and bubbly. Maybe I'll try and get some krill down there tonight..I'm sure it's gotta be hungry by now!

Well, I never feed my anemones and they're just fine. *I do feed phtyo plankton so that combined with whatever fish food they can catch and lighting makes for a happy anemone. *

Go ahead and target feed it if you want to though. *I have to admit it is fun to watch anemones eat. *

Just a caution GraviT, it sounds like you are adding quite a bit of livestock to your tank. Forgive me if I am wrong. Remember the "Gow slow and let it grow" mantra here at 3reef.

Thanks amcarrig! I may just let it eat phyto for a bit and try to feed it another time.

Craig, thanks for the concern. Beyond the single fish I added a couple of weeks ago (which is the last fish), the only new additions are small inverts (small BTA, small branching hammer, small devil's hand, tiny montipora frag, tiny finger leather frag) all the while keeping a very close watch on system conditions.

I didn't know there were stocking guidelines on invert additions. Please let me know if you know of any good reading on the subject, I definitely don't want things to go down the drain!

Sometimes, I have a hard time passing up a good deal, which is the case with just about everything I listed above. If things in the tank start looking poorly, I've got a 10 gal nano setup in the kitchen that could use something interesting in it.
