Default Fire Shrimp - Lysmata debelius

How about this for a cleaner shrimp?
I saw them in the LFS (and resisted the tempation to purchase them ) and they are beautiful IMO.

In a 58 gallon tank, should I just get 1 or may I get 2?

How do you acclimate shrimp? I hear they are very sensitive...

Do they need supplemental feeding or do they scavenge? I do know they need iodine , right?

Beautiful shrimp! They will clean and scavenge, however, unless you have 5 or more, they will hide until the lights go out. You can get as many as you like, within reason of course. Since they're expensive, I don't thihk you'll go overboard

It's best to slowly acclimate inverts using the drip method. I acclimate them for about an hour before adding to my tank.

Thanks! Yup, they are expensive...LFS...$29 or 2 for $50. I think the most I would get is 2. I don't think I have room for 5!!

I think most of the cleaners tend to hide, don't they? I don't really mind, since I leave the last actinics on sortof late...hopefully they would come out then. If not, so be it! In the store, they looked like they were dancing...hopping all around!

Skunk cleaner shrimp tend to be out and about more than most and even more so when they're in pairs. Skunks and other cleaner shrimp will sway back and forth to advertise to the fish that the cleaning station is open for business

You do have room for 5 shrimp in your tank. At one time, I had over 10 different shrimp in my 90 gallon. An evil pseudochromis took them all out before it disappeared itself

Congrats on the new shrimpies!

Annick,
did you say 10 different shrimp? I thought shrimps were mostly aggressive to different kinds of shrimp? Not true?

Of course you are the lady with the Percs that don't know they are not supposed to host in the BTA! HAHA!

I would stay away from the coral banded shrimp if you discide to add more they can be aggressive toward cleaners and will kill them. but as far as i know others should be fine.

true enough. i was wondering before why the cleaner shrimps i put all disappear. until the cbs died no cleaner survived. now i have one doing great (and sways, and sways, and sways......)

_________

I retired the reef for now. Maybe a nano or a softies tank in the future when I have both time and money. 60 gallon FOWLR in the meantime. My echidna nebulosa are still going strong!
