Default Chili Coral

My Chili exists in an entirely different time dimension then the rest of of the tank.

For literally months and months, it will stay shriveled up like a little red lumpy potato.

So much so, that I even forget it is still there. And come to assume it is really no longer with us.

Then for who knows what reason, all of a sudden it will greatly expand and start feeding.

It will do so for a short while, then shrivel back up to its normal shrunken potato self.

I have had this coral for 3/4 years and have only seen it fully expanded a few times.

This is really a temperamental coral, that had to be moved a number of locations around tank before it found a "happy spot."

Anyone else with same experience?

Im glad you posted this. Ive thought about getting a chili coral since its one of the few red corals available. Ive always heard bad things, and from what I understand about your's, all of the complaiints I had heard were from impatient people. Thats is trully a nice coral.

Pretty spectacular when you get to see it. Probably expands at night more then I know about. (even though I have never caught it doing so...)

Scott,

Superglue or epoxy that puppy upside down under a ledge or something and it will do much better.

They are azooxanthellate and need NO lighting at all but definately need good flow. They get 100% of their daily Carbon budget from DOM (Dissolved Organic Material) or POM (Particulate Organic Material).

This is a coral for EXPERIENCED HOBBIESTS. While I'm sure Scott or Brian can keep them alive, if you are new to the hobby, please don't buy them.
