I have had a maroon clown for several years now and when I first purchased him, I also bought a bubble tip anemone that he loved. They were inseparable until one day the anemone moved away under some rocks and we never saw him again...

So I purchased a new green bubble tip anemone today and the maroon clown has found it and won't stop rubbing it. But I just noticed the maroon has some white spots of irritation running along his bottom where he is rubbing the anemone. Is he hurting himself? Or is this part of re-acquainting with a new anemone??

That is the normal process for clowns and anemones. the clown is getting the slime from the nem on it so the nem will not sting it.

If by "hurt", you mean "provide a luxurious loving pillow", then yes, it can do that.

Thanks for the quick replies! I was hoping it was all part of the natural process. I'm glad to see he found his new home so quickly!
