Is this an anemone? (Pics)

This fell into the bag at my lfs, so the guy let me keep it. SOon as i put my new mushroom into the tank, i dropped this little guy in and he attached himself to a rock. It has a green stem or foot i guess

Take a look and let me know...

Im still shopping around for proper lighting. Its been looking pretty healthy for the last couple weeks though.

Majano anemone. Get it out as quickly as you can. It's a bigger pest than aiptasia.

It will reproduce en masse and sting sps corals. Peppermint shrimp don't eat them and kalk injections don't seem to work to get rid of them.

It looks like it's got its foot pretty well embedded in the rock so peeling it off isn't going to be an option. If you can't access the entire foot, do not try to pull it off because any and all bits of tissue that are left behind will grow into a new anemone. What you can try to do is place a small piece of live rock over the anemone and hope that it crawls onto it. If it does, you can then easily remove the small piece of rock with the anemone on it. You can also try to smother it by making it retract into the hole that its foot is planted in and covering that hole completely with superglue gel. You can also take the rock out of the tank and try to chisel out the area that it's stuck to taking care not to shred the anemone.

What about injecting it with hot water? Will that kill it? Keep in mind i dont wanna use any chemical pesticides since my mushrooms are all very close.

Also, i dont have any high output lighting. Im currently lighting the tank with two 48'' fluorescent bulbs, one of which is actinic. I think that has helped keep this little critter from multiplying. He has been in the tank for 2 weeks now. And to think...i was so happy when i first put him in

I feel your pain. I learned about these little buggers the hard way too and ended up having to tear down my 90 gallon tank 4 years after the first one popped up because they had taken over the entire tank

Trust me...the only way to get rid of that sucker is to physically remove it. I have tried injecting them with everything under the sun and nothing worked. Reducing my lighting did nothing. I even added a copperband butterfly fish and it didn't eat a single one. Superglue gel is not a pesticide so don't worry about using it. I use it in my tanks all the time to glue sps frags to rocks.

I bought some live rock about 6 months ago that must have had one or two hiding in a hole someplace. Now, there are literally dozens of them and they are making their way towards my SPS. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to wipe them out.

At least they are pink and green! :mad:

Now you know why I don't use live rock anymore. `taint worth it! :mad:
