LOL. Tell me about it. I got my BTA like 8 months ago thinking "cool clownfish house" lol. Now after bringing it back from bleaching, and death I feel I know alittle about them. And Ill defently try to get one going in the new tank. Evey little bit we can do to keep anemones happy, means one less clownfish house we have to take from the wild!!

Guys, Don't let anemones scare you into trying one!!!!!!The main reason for their demise in our tanks is our lack of knowledge and some time carelessness. I have been guilty of that in the past unfortunately at the expense of my anemones!!!!
By informing ourselves, on their water, light, waterflow and feeding requirements, their is no reason why someone couldn't have an anemone and be successful with it IMO!
Yes, their are certain species that are alot more demanding and not for the novice or intermediate aquarist, many times proving even to difficult to the experts. However their are some that are quite easy and would be a welcome addition to a tank if not a reef tank, just keep in mind, their tendencies to travel, thus stinging of other corals are possible.
I list some of the less demanding anemones for a tank as well as some that you would be better off passing on.

Default BabyBud update

The triplets are fine this morning... I should say Quadruplets! I found another bud hanging out in the sand last night, so it's been added to the pack. They are all grey and shriveled before the light comes on and then, presto, they plump up nicely.

Mama, on the other hand, has moved her sweet self down into a crevass and is withdrawn and pouting. Not sure what's up with that.

My tank is a JBJ 24g NanoCube. I have made no changes or additions to the standard setup. It uses a 36w fluorescent bulb - do you think it's too much for the buds to be up at the top?

It's such an honor to have this happening in my humble little tank, and to me - a total novice. Thank you all for your attention - it's nice to share this experience.

i dont think you are overpowered with light, on the contrary i think is a bit too low for an anemone, once again, im no anemone guru. But aparently, if the anemone is movingDOWN, it might not need that much light!

Default heard from anemone expert

Wow... I heard from Daphne G. Fautin, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Kansas State... VERY informative! I'm waiting to hear if I can post her comments here, as I think those of you that are interested in anemones (her expertise) will find them educational.

She said that pink tips are at only 10% of their population since before the aquarium trade took off. I'm feeling guilty for sure...

Anyway, based on the suddenness of the event, she feels this behavior was not healthy. She listed several types of anemone tentacle activities, most of which are about regeneration of the tentacle. In nearly all species, the "bits" die, though there is one in which the bits do become whole anemones (apparently not pink tip Haitians tho).

It doesn't sound very positive... but the bits are still alive, so I have hope.

hum..... Ive read all kinds of stuff saying that anemones spliting is a sign of stress, or bad health. But They have to reproduce some how. Mushrooms, zoos, and most polyps type corals are anemones, and they split, or bud, and live very nicely in captivity. Right now im more interested in how your little guys do, hehe. Keep the updated commin.

Actually, most species do reproduce via splitting but they can have an "unscheduled" split if they are stressed out.

Default buddy update

Found another buddy clinging to the tank wall scrubber... placed him in the nursery. He's the biggest of the bunch. Maybe I should have left him on the scrubber... more tomorrow.
