Default Anemone ATE my Maroone!

I left to house sit for a friend on Fri. Both my tanks were doing great (6Gal) and (72gal)

In my 6 I had a marone clown and a purple tip Anemone Thats it.

On sunday I came to the house to feed my tanks the Marone was missing. Its a 6gl so I checked to see if he swam in the filter but he was not there. I noticed the Anemone was twice as big as usual. We'll to make a long story short I get home today to find skin and bones of the marone in the tank.

Now the Anemone is back to its normal size but it has like a big flabby pouch hanging off of it.

Everyone was telling me the marone had died and I just didnt remember, I thought I was going crazy!!

Has anyone ever heard of an Anemone eating a marone?

I agree with Ziggy....that kind of anemone is a type of condylactis or haitian reef anemone and they don't host. Go to Jamaica and look at the anemone's in the ocean, they're huge but clownless. My maroon tried to host with it one time and it hid from him until the anemone died. Shriveled up to nothing. Get your clown a real anemone, like a bubble tip...You wanna see a clown go crazy? Mine is currently trying to host with my finger leather...I say whatever works for ya little guy LOL

I am though sorry for your loss!!

i don't think theres clowns where those anemonese come from so they did'nt have that instinct to host the clown.theres nothing you could of done.sorry for your loss.if you add another clown maybe a different kind will know not to get friendly with that anemonee.they'll host in anything if they have to, like gsp, toadstools, patches of xenia.my clown feeds the xenia thinking its an anemonee lol.

sorry! For your loss! As far as I've read, such a thing may happen when:
1. clown fish is ill.
2. it losses its immunity for the toxins secreted by anemone and therefore is regarded as a snack. I found this "revelations" in one of the research papers investigating the nature of the immunity of Amphiprion family towards different anemones.
