| What is this? Soft and spongy! I have noticed two pieces of this growing between the LR in my tank (circled). It is soft and somewhat spongy, almost gelatin like. I first thought it is a frag of my star polyps but there is no polyps coming out of it. Can someone ID this and tell me if this is harmful to my tank? Thanks

| Possible a type of soft coral!
I don not see any atrial or branchial syphon to categorize it as a Tunicate, nor do I see anything conclusive to offer me circumstantial evidence to support my obeservation of it being a sponge of some sort!
Can you get a closer and clearer picture of it? _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. | Maybe it is plating coral. I have seen plating coral like that before. They are semi-rigid. On the far right hand side of this pic there is some, but it is from an older colony and yours looks new.
Here is the pic: |
