um....are they hard and possibly in a spiral shape with stuff ocasionally coming out the top of them?

no, they are soft, translucent, have a spout type opening at either end with nothing coming out of them

my guess was vermetid snail, but they have a hard shell. maybe some sort of tunicate.

My guess would be a type or sponge or tunicate as well.
Nothing to worry about, try getting a more zoomed Picture.

they are tunicates.look up tunicate and you'll see.there are hundreds of different kinds,all safe.
