YouTube - Mantis Shrimp Attack (turn volume up)
Check them out. Very cool in a "mantis only" tank.

Looks like a mantis all right- get it out, stick it in solitary and sell it to someone crazy enough (like me, only with money) to want one.

With the pictures available, I cannot ID the species. Based on eye-stalk shape, I would guess Neogonodactylus wennerae . I pick these puppies up with my bare hands. Let 'em hammer at me all they want. If the live rock came from Florida or near-Caribbean islands, my suspicions rise substantially.

The mantis in the video is a Peacock mantis They are never hitchhikers. http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthrop...me=o_scyllarus
I touch them too but only if they are MY Peacocks. Snuggles died about a month back which makes me sad. He was easily the most spoiled mantis in North America. All of the customers always wanted to feed him.

Unless it's boisterous and will come out after a baited trap with something live, you might have to remove the rock.
